A purported video showing BJP flags being removed and set on fire has gone viral on social media ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, triggering fresh political controversy in the state.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of being behind the incident. Posting on social media platform ‘X’, Adhikari claimed that the alleged incident took place in Bhabanipur and suggested that TMC is “fearful of defeat” in the upcoming elections.

“Acts of Fear and Panic” – Suvendu Adhikari

In his post, Adhikari stated that Bhabanipur is no longer a “safe seat” for the Chief Minister in the forthcoming Assembly elections. He alleged that late at night, individuals linked to the ruling party removed BJP flags and set them ablaze.

According to him, such actions reflect “fear and nervousness” ahead of the polls.

“BJP Cannot Be Stopped” – Opposition Claims

The senior West Bengal BJP leader further asserted that such incidents would not deter the party. He claimed:

  • The more flags that are removed,
  • The more flags that are burned,
  • The bigger the BJP’s victory margin will be in the Assembly elections.

Adhikari also cited the example of Nandigram, stating that voters there had previously rejected the Trinamool Congress and suggesting that Bhabanipur voters may do the same.

What the 2-Minute-40-Second Video Shows

The viral video, reportedly recorded around 2:45 AM, is approximately 2 minutes and 40 seconds long. It appears to show:

  • Two individuals removing BJP flags
  • A third person seemingly recording the act on a mobile phone
  • The flags being gathered in one place and set on fire
  • The individuals leaving after the flags are completely burned

However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Trinamool Congress regarding the allegations. With the Assembly elections approaching, political tensions in the state appear to be intensifying.
